3AM Innovations partnered with the LA County Fire Department Lifeguard Operations to assess FLORIAN’s performance in tracking incident response on the water. With approximately 75 miles of coastline, LA County has a large contingent of lifeguards. However, they have not previously had the ability to collect data from the incidents they handle. Data that could be invaluable for reporting, training, and tactical planning. FLORIAN was enlisted to demonstrate a more effective method for tracking lifeguard operations.
Over two days and at two different beaches, Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach, FLORIAN’s tracking capabilities were thoroughly tested using LTE-enabled watches. With this simple wearable device, lifeguards could easily initiate an incident response with the push of a button and close out the incident by pressing a second button once completed. The water rescue exercise demonstrated FLORIAN’s reliable connectivity on the beaches, with consistent tracking of lifeguards both on boats and while swimming back to shore. Additionally, FLORIAN’s voice-activated Mayday feature proved effective even in the water. The exercise was a significant success, showcasing FLORIAN’s effectiveness and value for water-based incidents.
3AM had the honor of supporting the teams handling the Arlington, VA 4th of July celebrations. FLORIAN was used to great effect. Keeping track of resources and assets, delivering situational information, and enabling robust communication even through immense traffic
3AM trekked deep into the hills above San Bernadino alongside 25 wildland crew members in a simulated exercise to put our FLORIAN® platform to the test. This proof-of-concept demonstration set out to measure the accuracy of the platform’s tracking on X and Y axes in a communications-challenged environment.
